318 Needs a few more ponies

This is my first post, I just joined tonight and I just picked up my Challenger last night.
I finally found a good deal on an old Challenger. I got a 1970 all original in great shape. This is a true surviver. I'd like to go to a 440 in 3 or 4 years, but for now I'd like to get the 318 a little stronger. It's got a two barrel carb 318. I was wondering if any of you could give me some direction here. I was thinking that some headers, a mid range cam and a new manifold with a four barrel would be a decent set up.
I appreciate any help.
I'm in the South Bend Indiana area.

Welcome to CC.C.... Congrats on the Challey score,  Power is in the heads & cam, yea a four barrel intake & carb are necessary to get the cfms moving, find some '80s swirl chamber heads off a 360.

I think you got the right ideas to get things moving. Personally I always found headers a good place to start, then go from there as your wallet allows. Welcome to the site!

  Some 88-92 302 or 308 head castings would be a good start , especially ported
 working with a modern cam Like the Engle K54 or Lunati Voodoo grinds
 if you are going with headers get a god header , Dougs , TTi & Hooker all make a header that stays Above the steering linkage , anyhting that goes below is a bad design & will hit the ground

They are cheap, but you will have to watch everything in the road like I do.

This is the way to go...... BUT -

Don't call a yard asking for swirl chamber heads. 99.9% of the guys you talk to won't have a clue as to what you are talking about. TRUST BIGS ON THIS ONE. Instead give them an application (example) - I need a pair of heads for my 90 Dodge pickup with a 360. (which in this case is a Hollander 1477) This they can easily reference on the computer for interchange/availabilty/ect. Then you can get into casting #'s and things like that.

Those heads work on a '70 318??

What about EGR ports and such?  Do you have to block anything out when transferring to the 318?
