It all started while I was at work in Iron Mountain, Michigan doing the usual night shift thing. I got in around 2:20-ish as I start at 2:30 P.M. Central Time and go until 1:00 A.M. the following morning (hence the early morning post). Well, I get an e-mail from the night shift "boss" at apparently 8:30-ish, but I didn't open my mail until my 10:30 P.M. break. Needless to say, it was some very bad news that may or may not affect me. The next township over (across the bridge in WI) had a shooting, which consisted of three killed and two injured, one being an officer. Apparently some wack-job(s) (possibly an ex-Military man/men) decided to perch themselves above a railroad bridge, wearing full camouflage and yielding a high-powered rifle, and began opening fire onto a group of local late-teens/early twenties guys swimming/and or walking onto shore far away. They're currently still out looking for the person/persons responsible with all the local law enforcement agencies (including S.W.A.T. from Dickinson County, MI as well as Green Bay, WI) since 6:30-ish. The hard part is that this area is extremely wooded and the location of the initial shooting was within a woman's property of 600-acres of woods. They have the majority of the local roads closed off right now (I was surprised I was still able to make it across another bridge ~5-6 miles from the first shootings) and hopefully they find this scum-bag by mid-morning and dispose of him properly. Here I thought it was bad enough when the Crandon, WI shootings occurred a couple years back (about 40 minutes from me), but this is literally 10-13 miles from where I am sitting here writing this (complete with more sirens going off). For those interested in the story (or hopes of them finding and executing this mad-man, here's the page that has been my friend for the majority of the night while I was still at work:
http://www.wfrv.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=5923dd70-0544-47d0-b83a-f02358e04557I should add that the local news channel had a tip that someone had seen a man walking on the side of the bridge around 6:15, approximately 45-60 minutes after the victims' discoveries.
To give you an idea of how close I am, I passed the site from this photo about 30 minutes ago:
