Replacement Engine harness question....
« on: August 03, 2008 - 07:45:11 AM »
Does anyone know if I can use the Blue wire with the 90* end on it for electric choke? I think it was used for some sort of Choke item in its time.. I bought the 71 Ebody smallblock harness.... I can take a picture if thats easier.... Or i guess I could do my part and just check voltage to it..  :clueless:

Dont worry guys, Im not cutting any wires this time...  :misbehaving:

Wally,

I would just turn the key to the "on" position and check for 12 volts between that wire and ground. Since it's blue, it might/could/maybe have 12 volts on it.   :dunno:

On my '73 there is a component that mounts on the manifold that gets power from the ignition & sends power to a heater in the choke coil to heat it. I checked the diagrams at mymopar.com & it is spliced to the same wire that feeds the ballast resistor, the '71 diagrams did not show this but it was apparently for a non-electronic ignition. If you get 12V with ignition on & none in the off or accy. position it should be good.
