Non A/C dash to A/C
« on: January 17, 2015 - 08:23:09 PM »
So I am doing a resto-mod on  1970 challenger340 non A/C,  I will be installing vintage air.  I do need a new dash pad,  so I thought why not get the A/C one and integrate the vintage air system to it. I already called vintage air and they have the air vents for that conversion. However,  my question is would I only need the dash pad and install it on my frame or do I need a new frame too?

I'm doing the same...and I heard that the vintage air system that uses their own under dash vents is a lot better then their system that uses the factory dash vents as far as blowing cold air in the "right" places :2cents:

That's my plan too.

I hate the underdash add-on vents.  Looks way too aftermarket.

The plan is great,  no doubt.

But I still want to know,  is all that I need is a dash with A/C vents or do I have to buy a new dash frame?

Does the non A/C frame have holes where the vents are?

As far as I know the dash frame was the same and has the cut outs for the vents. Mine has them and I have non ac car.

 :iagree:

I did an ac install years ago on a 70 Challenger that I later sold. I used all factory parts on it. Right down to the ac/heater box. I made a paper template of the box and transferred it to the firewall and cut the holes. It turned out extremely nice. And no under the dash unit for the passenger to bump there knees on. The dash frame is the same. Good luck on the upgrade! :2thumbs:

I installed a Vintage Air under dash system in my 73 Challenger over the summer. I decided not to use the dash vents for better distribution Of cool air. The factory location was not the best.
