Well, he had to do what he had to do...........to win, I bet he was so proud, what a joke! Of course the answers are NO ! Man, around here he wouldn't even be allowed to register his car if he was judging (in any class), it just isn't done that way. In fact if a car club puts on a show the members of that club can display their cars, but they are not registered as a participant in the show. The worst part of this story is (if I remember right) this was a Mopar show,................that's sad, real sad.

I was organiser and judge at a Jeep show and shine we held several years back.  My Wrangler was lined up and wasn't meant to be judged but they did anyway and I was the winner in that class (I was judging CJs I think) but I declined the trophy as it would have looked bad and no-one was the wiser.  If you are an organiser then you have made a commitment to the running of the event, not your own personal glory.  Not to say that I didn't get an additional trophy made up for myself (they were really nice trophies and I'd put a lot of work in to getting them made so it was a bit of a souvenier as well) but that's my secret ;)  Cheers

Well needless to say after reading all of these replies I will NEVER attend another Mopar Madness show put on by a certain Mopar Club which shall remain unnamed by me.

Weve been judged by PARMCK professional judging association (NSRA, NHRA, ISCA, and AMCA) twice so far...  and they dont have anything in their checklist on spinning disco balls or festooning your vehicle with Matchbox versions of your car.  The National Points Scale for AMCA is 105 points (they give 5 points the judge can award as Gold Seal points)  also attached is typical judging criteria...

In answer to your question about having a lot of stuff in around your car.  My husband and I used to show a 1971 Curious Yellow 440-6bbl Cuda in the ISCA (World of Wheels) car shows.  At these shows they would count off if you had a bunch of stuff around your car in your display.  The judges wanted to see your car and how it was presented not have a bunch of stuff cluttering your car.  Some people use cotton around their wheels to make it look like a burnout.  One of the first things the judges would tell you is to not use the cotton.  We did go all out with our display because they gave out special awards for the display.  After the car awards were given out they would give out money and awards for the best displays and they gave out points too.  That was the only reason we had a nice display.  We had the Cuda on a turntable and had special carpet hand sculptured with a picture of the Cuda in the carpet.  These shows were all indoors and during the winter months.  We built this Cuda just to show in the ISCA shows.  We wanted a Mopar to win the Best Restored Championship.  We were the only Mopar to ever win a Best Restored Championship.

It sounds like the guy that won 1st place was trying to justify in his own mind why his car won 1st and yours didn't.  As far as him judging his own car that is very tacky.  I would write whoever was in charge of the show and complain.  If he was going to be a judge than he should not have judged the E-bodies.  It shows some people will do whatever it takes to get a trophy.  We are like you, we have so many trophies that we don't need anymore.  In fact my husband had so many through the years he would get some of the neighborhood kids together and let them race each other and whoever won he would give them a trophy.  The kids love it.  They didn't care what was on the trophy.
Redline,  Which ISCA show did you go to?  We may have seen you when we were showing our Cuda.  Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Yeah I know Matt, we're both members of the Tidewater Mopar Club, he has one of the nicest challengers I have ever seen, and his barracuda isn't bad either  :bananasmi he was the one that turned me to this site.

I am an AACA judge (Antique Automobile Club of America) and we judge the car by factory standards (on a 400 point system) meaning, zero displays, etc unless it is literature pertaining to an option on the car.  Fake crying kids, dogs, spinning cars, etc would get points deducted at this show.

Now granted, if there is a special category for displays, the displays should be judged accordingly.  However, every points style judging show that I have been too has not had any category on the judging sheet for presentation or displays.

I don't think I was at the 2005 Mopar Madness show (was that a Langley Speedway show?). From all that's mentioned, I do believe the show in question was in fact a Virginia show sponsored by the Tidewater Mopar Club. Camjam is correct on the judging system. there are a panel of 4 to 5 judges looking at categories such as paint/body, engine/engine compartment, interior, wheels/chasis. And yes, there is a VERY SMALL percentage of points that are given for presentation and there is a category for it. I do know that yes, members can & do enter their cars in the judging at TMC sponsored shows and members sometimes do judge cars in their class, but DO NOT judge their own cars. It would be nearly impossible for a member with a superiority complex to have enough pull to sway the outcome of a show. The member would only be one judge of 4 or 5 and these shows are usually pretty big and draw large crowds. There are often upwards of 200 cars entered into the judging. The judging panel often switches out members due to the large amounts of cars and time involved in the judging process. Maybe judging cars in your own division isn't considered a wise choice (and I do agree with that). But I do know the members of TMC. I know these folks spend literally untold thousands of hours working to restore a club project automobile that ends up being raffled off for charity (King's Daughter Childrens Hospital). We are a non-profit club and the members get absolutely no benefit in doing this other than the reward of knowing they may have helped a family that may not have been able to afford hospital care for their child. They are in the club for the love of the hobby and to help others. Mopar Madness is one our biggest shows. I know the members are straight up fair folks. I have judged at these shows and spent hours sweating in the hot sun, crawled on my hands and knees to look at chasis and undercarriage and even gone back to a previously judged car to recompare on a close call because I was trying to be fair and I've see all these judges do the same in the name of fairness. I benefitted nothing as a judge, only sore knees and sunburn. Was I there in 2005, I don't think so. Was there a biased judge, maybe, but I doubt it, but as I stated above, I seriously doubt that he could have swayed the entire judging process to win the show and I am sure if he was biased, he already knew the info I have mentioned here, so his efforts to sway (if they existed) would have been futile. The shows benefit our charities and are for those that love the sport. I certainly hope there was no judge rigging at the mentioned show. If I had more information or any proof I would gladly bring it to the attention of the board. I am sorry that a cc.com member here had a bad experience and sorry that I just now read this. I've had them too at various shows. I also know it is hard to please everyone and ultimately there are always sore feelings at these events even with the best and most professional judging. I am not a TMC board member, but On behalf of the TMC I offer my  most sincere apologies. This upcoming show (August 2008) should be an awesome time and I can assure everyone that enters their car for judging that no judge will judge his own car and the judging will be fair and impartial. Any issues or questions or details concerning judging rules or club membership can be addressed to the club at www.tidewatermoparclub.com they will gladly answer all of your questions, because I surely don't have them all. And I hate cotton and stuffed animals at shows!!! :roflsmiley: Oh and Chris, you must have been wearing dark glasses when you saw my Challenger. Thanks for the compliment!! :clapping:
