1970 Challenger Engine tag help needed
« on: April 20, 2011 - 04:14:23 PM »
Hi all, newbie here, would appreciate some help.

I've been looking for info on where to locate the engine tag for a 1970 Challenger, and have this description:  Small block:  "left front of block" Big block: "Left rear of block, near oil pan flange.

Anyone got a picture (especially big block) of both these spots that could help me find where on this greasy old engine what I'm looking for?  All I'm finding for pics are grainy black and whites that aren't helping at all.

Thanks!!

Bill

Casting numbers are on the side of big block engines in the rear near where the oil pan bolts on i believe.  But....... The more important number might be the ID number which is more descriptive I think.   There are two basic big block types, B and RB engines.   On "B" engines the I.D. pad is located on the passenger's side of the engine just below the cylinder head next to the distributor base; on "RB" or Hemi engines the I.D. pad is located on top of the block directly in front of the the intake manifold valley pan, next to the distributor base toward the driver's side.

Year one has a decent set of instructions that might help you.
