More Scammers
« on: August 13, 2008 - 01:39:48 PM »
Craigslist this time.   68 Charger, posted for 5K.  Total scam, but I had to respond to it, especially after seeing these guys:

Got the response below:

I'm really sorry for this late reply but I've been very busy lately and away from a computer. The car is in excellent running and body condition, no flaws on it or any other mechanical problems. It has a clear title and it will be signed and notarized on your name as soon as the payment will be completed. This was my husband's car who passed away 4 months ago and it only brings me bad memories. I only hope to find a good home for it and to be taken care of like he did. I believe $4,800(not negotiable) is more than a fair price.
I will tell you a few words about it. '68 Dodge Charger RT, original 440 engine, power steering and power brakes, automatic trans in immaculate condition with only 95,594 miles, VIN number: XS29L8B219630, rust free, no scratch and hasn't been involved in any accident. This car needs nothing.
I want this transaction to go smoothly enough as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and have little time at my disposal. I already have tons of emails so I hope you understand that I need to sort them out. I will take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the car, to be sure that I don't waste my time with endless discussions. This way, I shall be assured of the serious intentions.

So if you are interested please email me back and we'll go from there.

So what should I do next?  I was thinking of asking for a picture of herself with the car.    :naughty:

Also, does anyone know if this car really is for sale anywhere?

I saw this one yesterday in the austin craigslist and was thinking of responding.  I would ask for a photograph with that day's paper plainly visible with the car.  Does that VIN even check out?

What I do with the scammers is tell them I want to buy the car immediately so no one else gets it.  They'll ask for a bank account number or wire transfer etc.  I just keep giving them made up numbers or tell them that I've sent the money and to keep checking their bank.   By the third day of this they are usually pretty pissed but won't give up because they think that they have you on the line.   Then I send them a picture of handcuffs and never hear from them again.  It's kinda fun.    :P

get a pic with the vin # and a dated item in in. then if you are still interested, see if any members live in the area and can check it out for you. Any buddies at the licence office you can hit on? Don't get hung up on it! there are others.

I tell them I am close by and would like to purchase the car immediately with cash in hand.  Then I ask them for the address and usually the address is bunk, if they even give one up.
