I just read on NHRA.com that long-time Mopar pro-stock racer is switching to Ford next season.  This is especially troubling because Larry builds the engines for every other Mopar pro-stocker other than Allen Johnson.

1)  Is this a performance issue?  Larry says it is and he and the other teams using his engines are struggling to stay in the top ten, but Allen Johnson finishes around 5th in the standings every year.

2) Is this a sign that Mopar is getting out of drag racing and Larry is getting ready for life post-pentastar?

Morgan's had some great parts to work with from Chrysler and has done little with them anyway. He'll go where the money is just like he did when he ran the Olds, but I don't expect him to do any better with Ford.  :grinno: As for AJ, he consistently qualifies near the top but always finds a way to lose. How can anyone really compete with sponsors like Summit and Jeg's in the 2009 economy when it takes a million+ a year to campaign a Pro Stocker?  That's why GM has owned the class with Anderson & Line (Summit) and more recently Jeg who is a great driver that has daddies buisness pouring money into the operation.

I think everyone is watching their bottom line.
Morgan has been competitive off and on, but wasn't it pretty much the same when he was driving the Olds? I don't remember him winning a title unless it was back in the 80's or something. (correct me if I am wrong).

AJ just qualified #2 last night so his Mopar is performing pretty good. With chrysler in bankruptcy Ford probably made him a better deal.

Yep, AJ is #2 ahead of all the mega buck Summit and Jeg's sponsored cars after 4 rounds of qualifying. That proves that the Hemi makes the power needed to win. You'll also notice Vieri Gaines is the only Mope with a DNQ even though there are 6 qualified. Everybody gets the same parts to work with, so it's whomever gets the most out of them and gets the car down the track the best that matters, not the name brand.  :grinno:

You pretty much go where the money is...
I had & raced Mopars for over 35yrs and if I got a deal with GM or Ford I'd be stupid not to go with it, that doesn't mean I wouldn't still own Mopar's...

It's a tough business to be in and make a living, no money,  no racing simple as that....

Pro Stock is pretty much gas power funny cars anyway.
Nothing stock about those cars except for the name & fuel...

Pro Stock engines are alot more refined than the dinosaur motors they still use in the fuel and alcohol classes. They have to be with no blower. They are so close anymore that hundreths seperate #1 from #16. The days of guys like Glidden or WJ having a tenth over everyone are over. The best driver the day of eliminations usually wins unless they miss on the clutch adjustment. That's where luck takes over.

I like ProStock because it's no breakout racing, it has NO ENGINE FACTORS, NO POWERGLIDES and the guy that likes the bulb first wins. :grinyes:

PS is my favorite class as well. Always has been.
I like the fuel cars but PS always has the most crazy stuff for a NA motor.

Of course the minute I question AJ's driving prowess he has low ET for every round but the final and then hole-shots Edwards for his first win since 2007 today  :woo:
