Pegged Oil Pressure Gauge
« on: August 22, 2008 - 11:29:00 PM »
I fired up and broke in my big block this week and all went well  :cooldancing:  The new Redline electric oil pressure gauge I installed immediately went to 80 psi + reading evening when priming the motor with the priming tool.  When the motor is running, even at idle, the guage is pegged and doesn't seem to move until the power is cut off.  Is this something with the sending unit, calibration, grounding, or with the engine?  The engine builder did help me with the break-in and indicated the motor was very tight so he was not real concerned with the pressure.  Comments?

Wonder what the pressure really is. You may want to get a bigger gauge. I would be concerned with it wearing out the bronze bushing or distribor shaft prematurely. You may even blow the seal in the oil filter. It could be a problem that is easly fixed.
