Giving stuff away
« on: August 31, 2008 - 07:03:07 PM »
I am not one to get emotional but helping people sure makes syou feel good!  :2thumbs: We bought a new washer dryer as ares were 15 years old although still working fine so instead of having the delivery guys take them I offered them for free on Craigs list and delivered them today to a very happy family in the city.We could of got $1-200 for them but I feel better giving them to someone who needed them.not trying to toot my own horn just expressing some feelings! ( wife sometimes says I have none)   :smilielol:

I thrive on the meaning of giving.  Wade got me a new washer for some gears I gave him, so I bought a matching dryer. Ours worked good, just old. So I gave our old ones away too. Good for you :angelwings:

 :clapping:  Way to go torredcuda!

Today I gave away a 32" TV that worked fine.  My son bought a new flat screen yesterday.  I put the old TV out to the curb with a "FREE - WORKS" sign on it with the remote control.  One hour later 2 boys about 12 years old came and wheeled it off in a wagon.  They're probably watching it right now.

Its a good feeling you get inside when you give stuff away to others.

It definately gives you a good feeling to help out people, especially the less fortunate. On Friday I donated some old household and sports stuff to a club/drop in center for their yard sale. They're a non-profit organization that offers a save retreat for recovering alcoholics and addicts. It operates on meager food sales, fund raisers and donations. When I see all the stuff I have I consider myself one of the lucky ones.

One of my favorite bible verses is "The Lord loves a cheerful giver."  I willingly/cheerfully give whever I have a chance.  My wife thinks I am nuts because I'll reach into my pocket and give my last dollar at times. She'll say, "Don't you need that for the rest of the week?"  I just say, "I'll get by (meaning the Lord will provide)."

:iagree: My washer took a crap a while back so we went and bought a new washer and dryer. The old dryer still worked good and I put it on the back porch. My wife asked what I was going to do with it and I told it was going to sit there until the Lord sent us someone who needed it. Within 2 weeks a single mother who works with my wife and we have been friends with for years told my wife that her dryer had gone belly up, and she didn't have the money to buy another one. I even let them use my pickup to take it home. I offered to take it for them, but her daughter's boyfriend said he could do it.

Some of the best 'vacations' I've had were the times I spent down in Mexico with some friends of mine who have a ministry down there, building, refurbishing and repairing churches and classrooms!

 :iagree:  Nice job, torred!!!

Yep, never know when you can make someone real happy, especially when they really need something!

Reminds me when I gave away an old 1965 Honda Super 90 motorcycle to a guy locally.  He was so happy since it was just like one he used to have as a teen and was going to rebuild it as a father son project.
