Hello everyone.  Forgive me for my ignorance, I am new to Challengers though would like to own one someday soon. What is a Deputy challenger. Was it an appearance, interior option, or something else entirely. Thanks for any insight.

Nothing to forgive. I think of them as stripper Challengers, with a very limited set of options and everything removed that they thought they could to lessen the cost of the car. Personally, I think they're kind of cool.

LoneStar Mopar,

If you want some info on the A93 take a look at the thread in

Classic Challengers & Barracudas Galore, named -- The Challenger A93 Registry.

Barry outlines some interesting info there. I am learning about it myself. Have found out that 1971 A93 Challenger is referred to as a "Coupe" while
a 1970 A93 is referred to as a "Deputy". Do not know why yet but looking into.

Have copied this info from a site for your interest -- hope this helps:

Challenger Deputy

The low priced Challenger Deputy (Option Code A93) was a mid-year introduction
(March 1970) and continued until the end of 1971 model production.

This version of the Challenger was unique in several ways.

The car was similar to the base Challenger hardtop with the following
exceptions ;

The rear quarter windows were fixed in place by leaving out the regulator and
bolting the track.
The rear window winder was deleted and the hole plugged with a chrome button.
The standard engine was the 198 6 cyl. with the 225, 318 and 383 (2v and 4v)
optional.
The seats were the cheaper standard Plymouth Barracuda seats in black or white
only.
The steering wheel is coachman grain like the Barracuda.
Things like dual horns, cigar lighter and night/day rear mirror were optional.
There are only six Deputys known to have been built with the 383 4bbl engine.
Three with automatics and three with 4-speeds

Thanks for the info. bella beeze and ChallengerHK. ArcticCat gave me some insight as well. Hopefully that registry will gain some steam. This is the stuff that I love about mopar people that you just dont get with the chevy crowd I am used to hanging out with.

Not such thing as a Deputy in 1971.

Congress approval rating 5%-13%, sounds like "they" are investigating the wrong people.  :bricks1:

FY1 RT SE,

Just wondering if you had any additional info regarding "Not such thing as a Deputy in 1971". Any input would be appreciated as to why the word "Deputy" was not used in 1971.

Thanks,
Bella

...nothing, absolutely nothing but speculation....maybe the "Deputy" name ended with the end of the advertising campaign on TV with the "Sheriff Joe" character...was "Sheriff Joe" still used in commercials for 71 Challengers ???...I don't remember

I could swear I've seen a 71 commercial with him, but I couldn't lay my hands on it if I had to.
