Fuel pressure regulator need?

having problems with my car cutting off coming to a stop or putting in gear w/Eldo carb 650 avs...

I called the tech at Eldebrock and he said one of the things to check is fuel pressure( which I will check)  everything else on the carb has been gone thru...

I am running a stock 400 with 650 avs carb..........

are you guys all using a pressure regulator......what pressure should I have?

I use a Holley regulator set at 6psi with the Holley blue pump. 
Once we had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope & Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama, No Hope and No Cash!

4.5 is about the minimum pressure I would want to see
 not sure why you are running a 2 bbl on a 400 though

its a 4 barrel 650 cfm carb.......


I put a new stock fuel pump on trying to solve the prob and it didn't.....can a stock fuel pump vary that much in pressure?

Before I would bother with a regulator, I would put a fuel pressure gauge in the line between the fuel filter and carb. My after-market hi-volume fuel pump was rated to be 6 PSI, but was closer to 9, ao I put a regulator on. I can't speak for the stock fuel pumps.

Just before my fuel pressure gauge. So the output of my fuel pump goes thru the fuel filter, regulator, fuel pressure gauge, then to the carb.

I put my pressure regulator right before the carb. The idea is to keep the higher pressure fuel as long as possible, only dropping the pressure when it is absolutely necessary. Definitely check your idle adjustments, including your speed. Also, Chryco's suggestion to check the pistons out while idling in gear, is a good one. All carburetors need adjustment in order to run on a Chrysler, so there is no such thing as true "bolt on" performance. Although Edelbrock carbs are more forgiving than Holleys when they aren't tuned, they will still work better when they are properly dialed in. The springs that control the metering rod position are an often-overlooked part of the carburetor's idle, main, and power circuits.

Nobody chiming in here about using a return-line regulator vs the dead-head regulator...?   Using this you have desired pressure at the carb without the pulsing action that a dead-head unit causes.  When line pressure exceeds the setting, the regulator opens, fuel continues to flow, and the excess is bled back to the tank via the return line.  Constant pressure at the carb, regardless of volume.  With a dead-head unit, as it throttles back pressure, it restricts volume as well.

got a stock electronic Mopar ditributor( my car has a 400 eng w/electronic ignition) from their restoration parts book for it...
