« on: September 21, 2008 - 01:11:32 PM »
i came up on some pretty much brand new 315/30 18s michalines for free and was wondering if they will fit on a 18X10 rim? Its just a crusing/show car so there wont be any really hard turn taking.  thanks

all you need to do is go to a tire site & look up that size tire & it will give recommended rim width for the tire

My question is... Are you putting this on an E-Body?  I would think you would need some modifications to do so.

A 315 series tire is 12.4 inches wide. 315 is the width in millimeters. the conversion from millimeters to inches is divide by 25.4. I think with an 18 you will need a 12 or 13 inch wide rim, because with that small amount of sidewall I don't think have a tire that is 2.4 inches wider than the rim is a good idea.

You'll definitely need some modifications to get it on a stock car

I don't think have a tire that is 2.4 inches wider than the rim is a good idea.

That's still workable. It is only 1-1.25 per side that the tire will bulge, which is pretty close to ideal.

Fitting a 10" rim under the car isn't going to happen without some mods, however. Simple answer, jack it to the sky with high lift springs. Correct answer is to relocate the springs 3/4" in and use a B body rear housing.

i already have 18X10s in the back with a 285/35 18 with out moving the springs and still have quit a bit of room on either side. Now i dont know if the person before has put a different rear in the back or already moved the springs inward.

Probably the fact it is such a short tire i guess. I have 295s on a stock setup, but I run 28.5" tall tire. Your 315s are a full three inches shorter than my rear tires.
