question about stroking a 318
« on: September 25, 2008 - 11:35:29 AM »
Ive got an 89 318 with the heart shaped chambered heads on it. Its a roller rocker motor. I rebuilt it with the stock bore b/c it was in great shape. Im not sure what to do with it so i was thinking of using it in the 69 Dart project. What do you guys think? could i get some good power while still using the clean stock bore and cast iron heads? or would it be worth it? i was originally gonna go for a big block.... still might.

Im assuming, like my 360, that I would have to get pistons, rods, and a stroker crank. but is it safe stroking a roller motor? anything crazy id need to watch out for?

no reason why that would not work very well although if I was spending the $$ I would grab a roller 360 out of a truck instead , as it costs the same to do either engine & 360s are cheap

I don't know about the earlier engines but the Magnum heads are notorious for cracking. I'd figure on buying a new set if I was gonna do a junkyard engine build. It's probably cheaper than rebuilding them.

One of the mainstream car mags, I think car craft, just did a 318 build up using some magnum style heads. Resulted in 425 horses.
