What carb do you suggest for my 70 Challenger R/T 383?
« on: September 29, 2008 - 05:08:05 PM »
I have a rebuilt 383 with a mild cam . I have the original carb that i sent to be restored by a local guy . He did not do a very good job. The carb does not work very well. I know there are guys who can do a good job restoring the carb, but I might just leave it and get a new carb. Which one do you guys recommend? The original carb is a Holley 4369. I posted this on moparts too, I just wanted to get more opinions. Thanks

I can't think of a better carb for a mild 383 for the $$$ than a 800 thunder AVS.  :2thumbs:
Once we had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope & Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama, No Hope and No Cash!

 :iagree:

I would go with at least a 750cfm for a 383, I plan on using a 770 cfm holley street avenger on my 340. I'm not planning on a mild cam though...

For a mild cam, pretty much stock motor, I think you should look more in the 650-700 CFM range.  I think 800 would be too much.

Do you have a 4-speed or auto? Something in the 750 range would work well for you.

Not so sure about that, Mopar Muscle did a 340 build and started with an all stock motor, they bolted an 800cfm AVS thunder on it with no tuning and gained 35 hp and 22 ft/lbs of torque, just straight out of the box. The only thing was that it was an earlier 340, so it had stock 10:1 compression. Still, I would think as long as the compression on the 383 is around 9:1 with a mild cam a 750 should be very workable.

Sorry It's an auto. I would prefer to stick with a Holley. Should It have an electric choke? Any model in particular? Thanks

The Holley Street Avenger 770 should be your ticket. The electric choke is far more easier to deal with than a manual choke.   :grinyes: From personal experience, you will probably have to jet it down some in the primaries, but that isn't a biggie.
