Anyone have a picture of a good diagram of a 70 E body slapstick linkage? My car was molested by probably 30 different owners and parts are so mix and match that I have to thoroughly inspect everything as I take it apart to make sure it's for the right car lol. I did a lot with I put the new motor in and did some of the suspension but I didn't catch all of it mainly because my knowledge lies mostly in late model chevy.
Anyway, I had the shift linkage off and on before a few times with no problems, but being really anal this time with the new tranny+converter and all the other new stuff i'm doing I decided to check my Haynes manual just to look at the parts carefully.
this will be hard to explain without pics, but you guys know how there is the block that the linkage arm goes through on the slapstick side? It's the adjustable swivel block that you put that cap over, slide the linkage bar in then tighten the screw down to fix the position of the linkage bar? I noticed in the manual that for a 71 E body (I only have a 71+ Haynes book) it shows the plate with the screw sticking straight down to the ground which leads me to believe that the flat surface of the adjustable swivel block is facing down as well. On mine, the flat part is facing sideways and so the plate fits with the bolt sticking sideways.
I know it really doesn't matter, it is pretty much accomplishing the same thing. Just wondering if this is 70 specific or if I found another part of this car that was Frankensteined just in time for Halloween lol!
