340 Dyno results
« on: May 13, 2011 - 04:36:59 PM »
I thought I would let you know how the car did on the dyno.
First of all I wasn't expecting much: 73 block, stock 73 heads (1.88's), 70 replacement pistons, Air gap intake, 650 proform carb (mech secondaries), and crappy headers.

I have a Mopar purple cam 284/484 that was creating virtually no vacuum at idle and the overlap was killing the torque.

Something he told me I didn't know and maybe someone can confirm is that the 727 eats up a lot of horsepower compared to other trannies. He said in the neibourhood of 25%. :dunno:

Anyway this combo was good for 252HP and 288TQ at the rear wheels. I thought anything over 200 would be a bonus. Factor in the power loss and thats 315HP at the crank if you use 25%. Figuring a stock 72 340 was rated @240HP it could have been worse.

I forgot to mention they only ran it up to about 5000 RPM so it may have been good for some more. It was a couple tune runs.

I wouldnt get caught up in any style dyno numbers! the ET at the track tells the REAL power! dont be suprised if you have to re-tune at the track to get a better ET than what you got power wise on the chassis dyno! good luck!

 :iagree:
Plus, just having fun with the car is what it's all about
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it!

It was really cool.

Best time I've had since I finished the car. The guys were great and it was a lot of fun. It was nice to finally drive somewhere and enjoy the car instead of work on it.
I'm not really hung up on the numbers it was more of a tune session anyway. They got rid of the off idle stumble it has which was all I was loooking for.
