Couple of Challenger questions (trunk, dash pad removal)
« on: October 14, 2008 - 05:31:43 PM »
I would like to have my dash pad redone, rather than go with a cap like I did on the WannaBee, but not sure what that intails on a 70 Challenger convertible.  Do I need to remove the windshield, how many bolts fasten it to the dash frame, basicly how do I do it?  I would also like to see some pics of convertible trunks.  Mostly the jack, space saver and bottle and the overflow from the gas filler tube.  Thanks guys!

There are 4 bolts on top of the dash on each side of the 2 defroster vents. Also there are two bolts on each side of the dash. Lastly you will need to lower the steering column down and disconnect the various wires and cables and the dash will pull out. It sounds much worse then it really is, just be methodical and check you have everything disconected before you and a buddy start yanking it out.

What is a fair estimate of time it will take?

I could use some help with the trunk! pictures would be great!!!  I have the space saver tire.  My sare hold down has 2 threaded rods a short and a long the long is to the back of the trunk.  Not sure if it is supposed to be there? does the space saver go in back or front of tire up.  does the jack base go on the long or short rod?  I assume the inflater bottle goes on the other?  Do both rods go through lug holes or does one go through the center?  Were does the jack hook go?  Thanks signed Lost!!!

Ask for the pictures in the pictures section and you might get a reply. Sorry, I don't have any space saver pictures.

:clueless:   I don't even have a spare in my trunk or a jack or anything. You asked specific questions. Some answered on the dash. I don't think your being ignored or anything.   I got no flippin ideal myself, same as some others.  So try asking for trunk pics next for a heading next time and see how it goes.  Or go to the charger site.  It's all good.

This is all I got and its not of a convert. They are close. Most people don't have the space savers anymore because they are non fuctional plus they are worth about $750 bucks.

Thanks, That pic is so helpfull.  I should make sure in the future I never post anything after a few beers, sorry!  I found that the shorter threaded rod goes with the space saver, but I am still not sure wich of the two possible mounting spots it goes?

If you can get your hands on the jack instructions that would be pasted on the inside of the truck lid it will show you. Mine was painted over so I cant help you and the ones that I have seen on ebay the picture is not clear enough. Maybe someone will come along and post a good pic of their decal which will show you how to mount it.
