727 Kickdown for 6-pack?
« on: October 20, 2008 - 08:06:17 PM »
I have 70 Cuda with 440.  Recently added six pack.  My car has the rod from the transmission that I know is supposed to connect somehow.  Can anyone tell me how to connect this or suggest a conversion.  BTW will this burn up my transmission if not connected.  Trans already seems to be getting softer.

Yes, this will wreck your trans if it is not connected as you need the kickdown to control line pressure.

Someone will jump on with a picture of how it should be, just be patient and stop driving without it hooked up. :2thumbs:

You might check with ProMax. They carry a lot of six pack stuff.

Tact,

If he doesn't have funds right now, could you explain to him as to how to set the tp lever the old hot rod way by useing the the coat hanger clipped to the hole on the bell housing being adjusted to keep the pressure right without the kick down?  He would have no passing gears, but this kept the pressure right.

I am not good at explaining things, but made them to adjust the shift points.  Still would have to use the shifter to kick down, but it would shift out good when in drive.

Also, for the most part, wouldnt the bottom part of his 4 barrell stuff going down to the trans be about the same coming up to the back of the block and hooking into the swivel on the 6pk bracket. Then the lever slide on the carb would be different and the top swivel?

Wiring the kick down lever is not a very good deal either,it is OK for like driving the car to get the front end aligned or something like that, but you still should not drive it around that way.
Here is a pic of a set up off the internet if that helps you.
