Sorry to hear that, Dan.  It really sucks our economy is where it is.  Hopefully you can find another good career path where you can utilize your degree and designing skills.  Good luck man.

It might be a good time to find another line of work. I see higher energy prices, tighter regulations on emissions and higher MPG standards in the very near future. It's not a great sign when the new President doesn't think prices are high.

I don't know if this helps, but my company frequently employs people from the automotive industry in feature film visual effects (CGI) as well as animated movies.  The skill sets we hire range from IT specialists, electrical engineers, to illustrators and painters.  We just opened a large facility in ABQ, New Mexico, and I think they are starting to ramp up for their first set of projects.  It's tough.  I moved to California after being unemployed for three months in NY, and I didn't think a move that far was in the cards...

PM me if you want more information.

as expensive as Day care is for 2 kids...

switching to "Daddy day-care" in the short term ought to help things out a little bit ?    That and start listing stuff on craigslist to get you by.  If youre any good at garage sales or estate sales and making good deals, you can start flipping, or improving the stuff you got now with your spare time ( and take the kids the with you)

good luck man.
