it could be the strap to limit the travel of the lid so it only goes vertical not onto the passenger seat

Pics of my painted interior hard plastic and Re: console strap?

I could buy either of those explanations. It can be seen in the original picture, its just a loop of plastic, and I have not even looked it it closely.

Here is another picture of the interior, some of the guys wanted pictures of my spraying the hard plastic parts with base coat paint. Well, I did it and it seems to be OK. THe panely were not in great shape to begin with but most eyes will be on the seats, and they look great. I think the base paint (w/hardener) is a lilttle more durable than SEM dye although it was not cheap ($93 a quart w/accessories) and more of a hassle to spray on.

Is there a starp on both sides?  If so, then I would say they are for the seat belts.

There should be a strap/loop on each side.

mine only had the one, but there is no telling where this car has been! If they were supposed to have two, then that would lead me to believe it was for the seat belt and not the door hinge.

Base paint for the trim will be ok if you added a flex agent into it. Otherwise oilcanning, people bumping them over time will crack and flake the finish. My painter added a flex agent to paint argent on my plastic exterior trim parts and I have bent them back and forth many times and no problem.

George,

If I remember correctly, those straps were just held to the consolde with plastic rivits. It was easy to break then off, so that might of happened to the one on your driver's side. These were just to keep the female end of the seat belt from crawling under the seat.

   This place is simply amazing -- you learn something new here all the time.    That's the first time I've seen one (or even mentioned -- even in all the books!     Were they unique to the '70/71 years - or all years?   Cuda's and Challengers both?
