trunk sound deadening/undercoat question
« on: October 23, 2008 - 05:35:43 PM »
I'm getting ready to paint the trunk area of my car. Does anyone have a recommendation for duplicating the sound deadening/undercoat material that was on the quater panels in the trunk?
Thanks, Jay

My body shop guy did a perfect job reproducing the undercoat in the trunk and undercarriage. I'll call him tomorrow and get the info.

It's called BodyShutz. You get it from a bodyshop supply store. It comes with it's own applicator with a large nozzle. It's not cheap. You can't use spray can stuff, it isn't thick enough - if you want it PERFECT. Otherwise, use that stuff and put on MANY coats over a several hour period. You can build it up soemwhat close, just not perfect. Make sure you MASK off everything else or you'll have it EVERYWHERE!

I don`t know about the US. but in my country bodyshutz is not expensive... about $7  a quart.  It usually comes in cans that can be used with a common UBC spraygun. Use about 60-70 psi to spray.  I used 1 quart per side in the trunk.

Thanks all for the input. I will see if I can find BodyShutz locally or do the build up of spray can undercoating. Thanks again, Jay

I think it's under $20 for a quart, for best results use with Shutz gun
