Torsion bar?
« on: November 11, 2008 - 09:58:28 AM »
Ok with the help from you guys I have the front susp all rebuilt and ready to bolt back in. Just wondering if the torsion bars should go back into lca sockets so easily. They just slide into the sockets and into the frame correct. Waiting for new boots and clips and I will be bolting the first parts onto the car in 5 yrs. Thanks.

I would like some advice on what to expect too. I'll be doing this in a couple of months.

It depends , with the lower control arms dropped down I have had some T bars slide right into place , I always put some grease into the sockets before doing this , some I have had to use a hammer to slide them in

Also, at least in my case, the boots were really stiff and VERY hard to get onto the bar.  I recommend grease as others have mentioned, also putting the boot in hot water just before putting them on made a big difference.

You were lucky, my bars needed some persuasion before they would go in.  I still need to get the bars all the way in so I can put the retaining clips in.

I have used a dull chisel in the slot in the rear of the bar to seat them fully into place

I did realize I could not put it together before I got the boots, which is amazing since I have done just about everything twice so far with the rest of the suspension. Thanks again, I will be posting pic in restoration section soon.
