Power to Manual brake conversion
« on: November 02, 2008 - 11:43:28 AM »
I'm not buying anything yet. I'm just trying to get info. I did a search on Google and all I can find is stuff about mustangs and monte carlos.
What is involved in switching to manual brakes? Do I need to buy a complete kit or can I find master cylinder kits with pushrod and what-not?
Are the calipers any different on the brakes themselves? Can I use regular calipers?

The reason I want to run manual is so I can run a real aggressive cam and not have to worry about vaccuum. I already found the steering kit I want. If anyone knows a site I can go to get more info or a place that sells these types of thing I appreciate it. Thanks for the help.

All you need is a disc/ drum master with the groove in the rear piston to retain the pushrod , I use 75 Dart with manual disc for this , the pushrod is availble from Mopar or find a used one , the calipers etc are std parts , not changes there , the other option is to run power fromt he power steering system using a Hydro boost

I did the conversion recently

Master cylinder w/pushrod retaining groove
Pushrod (i bought one from a factory manual brake ebody)
Firewall reinforcement plate

The aluminum master I bought has too large of a piston however, it's quite a leg to brake the car. Something I'll have to tend to down the road.

Would a vacuum canister work for your engine combo???  Summit & Jegs sell them.   Unless its a race track only ride, on the street if you end up overshooting and plow into the back of something.  OHHH your gonna be bummed, as well as get the ticket.
