There was a cute portion of dialogue between Kitt and Michael regarding the car, and it's rarity with the Hemi.

I'm sure that the one they actually wrecked was a junker to begin with - they spend lots of money making junkers look good for the 5 seconds they're needed.

Another production company will buy what's left, fix it and reuse it.

Yup - that's when Michael said "426 Cubic inches, Hemisperical heads, 4 barrel carb, 4 speed"  I said to myself, "Well, there's another misinformed but well intentioned writer."
