Steering shaft coupler
« on: November 20, 2008 - 07:44:36 PM »
I replaced the power steering box for a manual box. I had to add a coupler to the manual box to adapt to the shaft. Well the coupler on the shaft rubs along the exhaust manifold. Can I replace the coupler with something that would clear the manifold? Thanks in advance :dunno: :2thumbs:
My lugnuts require more TQ than your ricer produces!!!

A die grinder or Dremel with the appropriate carbide burr will achieve the clearance you need. Grind a little on the manifold, and a little on the coupler, until it clears.

Try loosening the bolts that hold the column to the firewall first, you may be able to push it over far enough to clear & then re-tighten the bolts.

Also look at the engine mounts and how old they are.  There is usually some play in the bolt holes for adj as well.
