Did the Napa pin/bushing kit a couple years ago on the driver side. They seem to be ok still. :2cents:

If you haven't removed a Chally door before I would suggest a full grown man to help out (don't tell them big kids I said that though  :22yikes:). They are heavy and there are painted surfaces in play. Also mark the hinge location before removal and blue tape the margins of the fender and door edge.

LAA66,
Can you give kind of a '' play by play '' on the hinge pin change?
I'm still not clear on the drilling aspect of this job. Do you drill to get the old pins out or do you drill to get the new bushing in?
I appreciate the help!!!

If I recall no drilling was needed with that kit. It's been a while but it should have directions including where the bushings go. As for the pins they tap out from the bottom to top.

First support the door about midway with a little more weight towards the hinge side, then start loosening the bolts from the door side of the hinge. When thinks get wobbly that when you need a helper. Be careful as taping the edges of the fender and door helps but it won't prevent finish damage from heavy contact.

Once the door is off you can do the retrofit with the hinge still attached to the body or take it off but try to hit the exact same location upon installation if your do. When assembling be sure to check all gaps for possible contact  points. Definitly don't close the door till you know everything will clear.

Then it's loosen, adjust, and tighten bolts usually many times to get things right. It took me about 2hrs, mostly because of the fine tuning. Don't forget the striker adjustment also. Hope that helps. :)

That helps, THANKS for taking the time. Napa should have my new pins and bushings Monday.
Wish me luck!

Please take some pics along the way, and document your results.  I'm going to need to do this also.

Thx

Super Blue 72,
How do adjust the door hinges? Is it done with the hinge bolts that attach to the car?
I've got a jack stand/ motorcycle lift that I'll use to assist (with MUCH care) in lifting the door. I think I'll jury rig something with some 2 x 4's to create a nest for the door to sit in. If I bolt it to the lift and get some help from the kids (I've found that my wife is not a very good helper, LOL!!!!!!!!) I should be safe................

Sirry for the late reply, was gone for the weekend.

Yeah, possibly my hinges are gone but hey, I just wanted to adjust the hinges quickly so the striker didn't keep banging on the latch assembly and there wasn't too much play in the hinges.

I supported the door with a floor jack, using a cloth on the jack so as to not hurt the bottom of the door.  Loosened the hinged on the car side, not the door side, then "adjusted" the door with the jack, then tightened.  You may have to do this a few times but if I can do it, any one can!  :grinyes:   I think I adjusted the bottom first to lift the rear part of the door.  Only adjust one hinge at a time and make sure the adjustment doesn't make the upper and lower hinges bind against each other!

Have you tried adjusting the hinges?  If there is a little play, I would try adjusting the hinges to see if you can get the latch/striker to line up.  My car has body side mouldings so that helped lining up things.  I adjusted the hinges and the doors close well.  I didn't have too much play to begin with...

Hey Super Blue 72...

I know this is a very old thread...but i wanted to chime in and say "THANKS!" for this post....it saved me a ton of work!

My passenger door was hitting the striker and hanging low ...would line up fine when you closed the door, but it was rubbing pretty hard to get it closed....

I checked my pins when the door was about halfway open and the lower pin IS worn some....but noticed that when the door was almost closed I couldnt feel any movement.....

So I went ahead and tried your way first.

It worked great!  One not to folks -- there are two external bolts on the top and then the bottom hinge where it mounts to the car...but there is ALSO two bolts going from the inside out of the car....you have to remove the kickpanel to get to them.

I lucked out here.....I loosened all 4 and then held the door up while the wife cranked the bolts inside down....that held it in place enough to then swing the door out and tighten them all down.

A little readjustment of the striker also and now the door closes and opens GREAT!

Thanks again!   :2thumbs:

This place rocks!

I am sure you are all getting sick of my backyard super cheap fixes  :smilielol:  H
ere is another one I did to my drivers door  :2thumbs: I too had serious sag issues and needed hinges and still do, but with no dough I simply loosened all four lower hinge to door bolts, pulled one bolt at a time and slipped 1/8" washers in between the door and hinge. The door now closes and is aligned perfectly, without removing the doors and going through the hassle of re-pinning the hinges
