I would do the quartz conversion, since you already bought it.  I did mine last year, and it keeps perfect time.  It also draws a lot less juice if you don't get the car out all that often.  I never even bothered to check if my original worked, I just replaced.

But, this morning I decided to check out the clock (I bought this instrument cluster several months ago on ebay) -- hooked it up to a battery and  :droolingbounce:  it clicked and worked!   So -- now I have to decide if I should install the darn quartz kit anyway -- obviously not knowing how long it will work.....     :clueless:    Any advice? 

If you decide to stick with the stocker, give it a good clean and lubrication.  I ran a non-rally clock for many months off a desktop 12V power supply and it kept good time after adjusting a couple of times.  I cleaned the works with naptha, blew it dry with spray-air, and lubricated the 'bearing points' with Micro Kroil.

I just tried it again (its been sitting in a ziploc for years) and it still works fine; the Micro Kroil apparently hasn't gummed up.

Duodec:    Thanks for the advice -- I'm still thinking about what I am going to do.   Since I already bought the quartz conversion, I'm tempted to install it.   Then again -- the rallye clock in my (all original) '74 Chally doesn't work-- so I might just install the quartz in that one....   and leave the '70 alone and do as you suggest (clean/lube it up and see what happens!)   

Nice to have options!
