amp gauge bypass?

Hi i have a rallye dash in my car and noticed that the amp guage is melted. Is there a way to bypass this totally and just run a aftermarket autometer volt guage?

How would i go about this? would i just simply leave the amp gauge unpluged and tape up the wires?

Also dose any one have a pic of the back of a rallye cluster with all the wires connected? i am not sure witch wire went where since i just installed a new wireing harness.

Tie the ammeter wires together.

You will lose a ton of your electrical system by leaving them unhooked. You will actually need to connect them (i know red connected to black sounds like vodoo, but it's not). Also something to consider is bypassing the likely melted bulkhead connections at the firewall. (unless you also replaced those, may want to check them).

To run a voltmeter, all you need is a ground, and switched 12v source (there is a nice male spade in the factory fuse box, radio hookup, etc)

Yes,

  Use a bolt/screw to tie the thick red and black wires together. Heavily wrap in electrical tape afterwards. I would only do this as a temporary fix until you get another amp gauge, or convert to a volt gauge. You need to know what's going on...Or at least I do.

I cut the ends off and used a big butt connector to put them together and put a bunch of electrical tape on them and put in an aftermarket volt meter

Bolted mine together and put heat shrink over it. Never had a problem

NO!!


   That cluster of black plugs tied together goes to the fuel, oil pressure, and temp gauges. It came off of one of them. It looks like the oil pressure gauge from here.

So it looks like He needs to add a pigtail to feed those gauges right?

here is a pic showing how it's wired now....is this correct?     (the 2 wires that i tied together were the only one's connected to the volt gauge?

MEK is correct. That plug is the 5V feed to the one guage that has 2 bare posts. Your last photo looks correct. I would add the relay system in the light circuit which will relieve a good portion of current from flowing through the firewall plug. Also please consider the electronic 5V regulator (the little square box) as the original ones can freeze closed and you get 12V to the guages - then poof goes the guages. One of the listers here has had that happen. I built the little 5V one for $1.50 using the original can. Also then you discard the little suppression capacitor beside the regulator.
