NOS Shocks - GOOD OR BAD IDEA
« on: November 20, 2008 - 12:04:41 PM »
Hello,
I have been looking to get a new set of shocks put onto the front of my challenger. I found a set of NOS ones for a great price. Trouble is I got to thinking. Would these just fall apart due to age when installed. They are getting kinda old. Let me know your thoughts.

I`m not sure a shock would go bad from just sitting around

I dunno - the inner seals just sitting for that long?

I'd at least look to replace the rubber bushings at top - they're rubber.  They'll dry out just like a tire.

I guess I have to ask the usual question - what are you doing with it?  If it's a driver, I'd recommend new shocks with "fresh" parts.  If it's a show car, then NOS by all means.

Just my opinion.

I think those are NOS aftermarket shocks, not NOS OE Chrysler shocks. You can get new monroe shocks for around 25(ish) each as opposed to old unknown brand shocks. If you could get them for $10 it might be worth it, otherwise I would pass.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

9.99 + shipping is the price if no one bids. Oops I screwed my self by saying that. HE HE HE  :grinyes: But you all have a good point this car is a driver so that might just be a little to hard on them.
