70 challenger sheet metal questions
« on: November 24, 2008 - 10:11:05 PM »
First off I was lucky and got a free front 3/4 floor from a 72-74 barracuda. Before the repop amd ones were ever made plus free is a hard thing to pass up.
Yes i know is not quite the same as the 70 challenger due to the ribs that are stamped in it.But it will not be an OE Gold Class car Other than the ribs on it that most mopar guys would not even know about Will it cause me any problems with anything other than apaearance? To be more plain if i use the cuda 3/4 front floors in the 70 challenger is there anything like seat belts, fuel lines, brake lines, proportioning vavle that will not be in the right place?

Also I see that adds for AMD sheet metal say that the rear floors {left and right footwell} say 70 and 71 up is it the seat belts that are in another place in the 70 rear foot wells?and also the trunk floors say 70 and 71 up whats the deal?

Kevin. It seems like you should be able to make it fit if you needed to. Or maybe a portion of it. The 70 seatbelts for the front are different , I know the 4 speed hump for a cuda fit a 70 challenger, but had to hammer an area down a bit. The lines and stuff should be no problem.   You doin the vert now?

Yes in a way I will be starting on it.
First off I need to clean up the area that the car is in "stuff is in the car ,under it and around it"
Then cut out{drill spot welds} the donner 3/4 front floor, blast it clean and epoxy primer it. not sure how much time and $$ i will have after that.
After posting this I thought.
The 70 challnger is it's own floor a 71 up in aperance is not the same but the later years will work just not look the same to the trained eye!
It will fit the same, But I also wanted to know if any major things like brake lines/proportion vavle ect would be way wrong with the later floor?
I know that the 70 cars had the shock mount acess holes on top and not the side in the trunk floor but what else?
Rear floors the same for all years?

the drops should be different to allow for the different venting systems
the 70 definatly had unique outer seat belts so that would be my assumption on the rear floors & as long as the front floors are long enough I don`t see a problem , Chall has a 2" longer wheelbase in there somewhere

Well the vert belts are not the same as hard tops are. and the rear fllot wells aer where the cuda is shorter up till now they have been selling cuda rear floors and saying add the extra if used for a challenger. So most eveyone used them as patches or bought used oem challenger rears.
