Interchange power/manual steering box
« on: December 11, 2008 - 12:04:35 AM »
Wanting to know if the power steering box from a 70 gtx will fit my 72 Challenger. I am wanting to trade one of my buddies his power box for my manual box. He races his, I don't so it would be a good trade for both of us. I looked it up on Napa website. Both cars have the same number for power steering box, so I fugure the manual box would work in his car. I am mainly just double checking myself, and I figure someone here would know. Thanks for any help.

The boxes will interchange, but going from manual to power steering will require you to replace the shaft in your steering column as the power steering shaft is shorter. When you swap to manual from power (as I did in my Challenger) you need to purchase an adaptor that essentially lengthens the steering shaft.

My Challenger has the adapter in it already. So once I take the manual box, and the adapter out the steering shaft should be fine. Correct?
Thanks for the help Hemi. :2thumbs:
