Hey Kenny,

Ok, I "doctored" the picture for you. I also included a page from a Challenger 72 options list that shows the two types of wiper options.
Somewhere in the 72 production, there was a crossover to the three speed switch. I have seen date coded switch plates that had variables and three speeds. I called the variable a 70 - 72 because of this documentation. You know the line... Specifications subject to change without notice.

Hope that helps.

The wiper linkage IS different between 2-speed and 3sp/variable speed.  The three speed linkage has a simple hole where it hooks to the little 3" arm that comes off the wiper motor.  The two-speed linkage has an arrangement there that rotates like an eccentric cam.  It also has a rubber boot over this rotating thing.

My 1970/71 Passenger Car Catalogue (parts books) shows 2 separate "LINK, Wiper Drive" pictures. The part numbers for these years are:

2 speed = 2822292 / Variable speed = 2822293

Thanks for the heads up on the linkage.    I think I'll stay with my 2 speed (I don't drive it in the rain anyway!)   :ylsuper:

I have a 70 Challenger that was fairly loaded for a base car. It has the 3 speed wiper and arm linkage but the gauge pod was removed so the variable switch is MIA. It might end up being more trouble than its worth to move to a 3 speed wiper but I am going to give it a try.

If the motor works, wouldn't you rather just get a switch?

I found a 3 speed switch that I will buy from a member soon. I am just wondering if a 3 speed switch is going to be compatible with a 70 variable speed motor  :dunno:  :clueless:

Same motor, but I don't think the harness plug for the '70 variable switch will fit into the '73 3-speed switch. Slotts can verify this one way or another.  It is still worth putting that switch in by either making separate spade connectors for each wire going into the switch, or, if you're lucky, finding the plug from someone who has swapped out their harness.  good luck.

Yeah it would be nice to get the plug but I can wire it seperate if I have to. It is going to take a while to get this car back together. I will have to make myself be patient. It will be nice to get it back though. I saw it 2 days ago and it has its final coat of primer. One more blocking and back into the booth for color.
