dash pad dilema
« on: November 21, 2008 - 08:22:44 AM »
I am debating on rather to purchase a new dash pad from Ultimate Rides or send mine into just dashes.  I believe the Utimate Rides pad is around $600.  I am not sure how long it takes to be delivered or the quality of the product?  I am not sure the cost of Just Dashes but I know they did the upper door pads on my Charger and the price was near $700, the quality was good but the 4 weeks they said it would take turned into about 9 weeks.  Anyone who has dealt with Ultimate Rides, some feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I installed a pad from Year One with the plastic core (I believe they get them from Ultimate Rides) and there was fitment issues where the lower dash plastic trim meets the pad, requiring trimming of the pad. I got it to work but was never entirely happy with it. It would appear that Ultimate Rides is currently the best choice compared to NOS or excellent condition originals.

Mine came from U. R.. It looks great. It took about 3 weeks to get it. Communication was acceptable. At the time I was very unhappy with the fit. I spent at least an extra 3 hours dickin around modifying it to fit. Problem areas were the AC vents, the plastic side trim, the right hand side screw, and the center speaker. From what I have read on some of the other dash threads on this site. That may have been pretty normal. If I were to buy another I would hammer them on those problem areas and see what they could do about it. I went with them because they had the best price and I felt confident after talking to them on the phone.

I have one of those custom carpet dash covers that used to cover the old cracked dash. I like it and the wife hates it. She says "you spent $600 on a dash, why are covering it up?" I say it's to keep the sun off my new $600 dash. :-\

I went with Ultimate Rides. This was about 5 years ago. I had to send them a core back then. Turn-around was about 3 weeks, I'd say. Nice looking dashpad.    The thing people are moaning about is you have to trim around most holes. The speaker, AC vents, the dash gauges, and the holes on the far ends. Look, I'm not the most talented person in the world, but if I can do it, anyone can. That was my only real work on it. I don't regret it at all.

I've spoken with Alan from UR at Carlisle many times and he seems pretty easy to deal with. I could be mistaken, but I think he will pay the shipping when you send him your old core pad. I have also seen the new pads he makes and they are quite nice. Sometimes you can get one of his new pads with "blems" on ebay cheaper than his regular price.

I would NOT recommend the plastic cored pads or anything from Year One. JD's prices are just a bit too much for me.
