DASHBOARD IGNITION WARNING LIGHT
« on: December 11, 2008 - 04:16:11 PM »
  Hi,
Is my car supposed to have an ignition/charge light in the dash cluster . ( The red warning light when you turn on the key)

It just seems strange that when you turn on the key, nothing lights up.  :clueless:

                                                                                        Cheers, Cudaneil

Do you have a rallye dash?  I have the oil light on my standard dash that lights up with the key in the on position but not running, well except for that time I was cruising to the Fairgrounds at Carlisle and the oil light came on.  Thankfully I had put in a mech guage.  The sending unit wire popped off on my bonzai run.

If you have a Rally cluster, nothing lights up, but you should at least see the fuel gauge move.

Hi,  Yes i have a rally dash, and as you say when you turn on the ignition you just see the fuel gauge move !

I am used to having a red charging light on every car i ever had.   I wonder if it would be easy to wire in a small red l.e.d. light which comes on with the ignition,

and goes off after the motor starts ?       :clueless:      Cudaneil.

What will you gain with this red light?  As you start the engine, the amp gauge should swing from discharge to charge, while the tach shows you the engine is running.

That usually would require a late model alternator that has a feed/terminal for a light. Little more complicated.

Solution to adding a idiot light to your Ralley Dash...takes a dual feed oil pressure sending unit.  Here's the how to, see #s 3,4,5 .......................may be a good use for that useless seat belt warning light

When I turn on my key, my BRAKE light lights up because I always have my parking brake set. Doesn't yours come on?

Rob

My black face stereo also lights up and says hello to me.

No, never use the park brake...........just select park and that locks the transmission.   I will try the park brake and see if the light works !
