Ok, I have the mirror mounting nuts for the doors. How are they installed?

if you have the Rivnuts they collapse like a pop rivet , there is a tool to install them but you may be able to install a screw in the nut & run a nut down the threads with a washer under the nut & collapse it that way

I just went to install and found that the holes in the door are too big for the nuts. One hole allows the whole nut and its shoulder to go through the hole. The other is just barely small enough to not allow it to go through. Any recommendations? I was thinking of a small washer but that may make the nut stand out too far. I suppose the worst case would be that I custom make a plate to mount on the inside of the door with threaded holes.
Thoughts?

the factory did do this , make a plate & tread holes into it , you will need a large hole for the cable on the drivers side

Neil do the rivets have a tendency to spin instead of letting go of the phillips head bolt? I swear nine tenths of all doors I see have missing rivets with distorted holes where someone literally rips the mirror from the door. I hardly ever see just the threaded inserts where someone actually took the mirrors off right.

probably , I would install with Anti sieze but after a few years it would be very easy for the screw to sieze in the nutsert
