Back Seat Bottom Doesn't Fit Right
« on: December 29, 2008 - 10:36:47 PM »
I had a post about this many months ago and just moved onto other things but it still bugs me :pullinghair:.  The back seat has a large gap underneath it on either side of the hump.  I can fit my hand between the floor and the seat but the latch mechanism does engage although loosely.  It's okay at the hump and fits well otherwise . Any ideas on what is going on here?  Here is a pic.  You can see that the part of the frame that hooks to the floor is obviously sitting a few inches below the bottom of the seat.  This would make it impossible for the bottom of the seat to get close to the floor.  I'm stumped here as the seat doesn't fit right and I can't think of what other car this seat would fit.

It may have pried out at one time before you got it...very common and to bend it is common. Have you tried to bend it to fit?

Matt I recently had my seat back (frame) re-done so it would fit properly. Its quite possible you may need to do the same.

I had to bend the hooks and/or the seat frame where they attach to tighten things up so the seat is down against the floor.

This was common even when they were new.  Either the latch is bent or the part of the spring that holds it down has been bent up and can be bent back down for a better fit.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

They don't look bent but I'll see if I can bend the frame pieces up.  Thanks.

I looked again at the seat frame bars that hook into the floor.  There is no way you can bend these. Stumped.
