Possible 4 speed Clutch Start Switch source

My clutch start switch is buggered and the only source I could find was at Brewers for $290.  I know some have fitted brake light switches.  Today I found that someone was making mechanical adjustable brake light switches which look like they should work with some bracket mods.  They are available on internet stores and Ebay for about $22.  I might order one today and see if I can make it work.  Anyone try this?

I had an issue setting a car past our out of province inspection , the inspector said it Had to have a clutch start switch in order to pass even tough the car never came with one originaly, I used a brake light switch & modified the braket to make it function & it passed although it is not really safe as the clutch pedal only needs a small amount of movement not full depression to allow it to start so it could be started in gear still

I was going to do this although the stroke is so short on those switches wouldn't you have to put them near the bottom of the pedal travel?  I'm thinking they might be finicky because of this.  How did you mount it CP?

I mounted it near the top of the pedal off the brake switch bracket
the brake switch work opposite , when depressed the switch is open not closed so mounting under the pedal on the floor will not work you need a normally open / closed when dpressed type of switch to floor mount

So the switch you used is mounted on the topside of the pedal and stays depressed/open until the clutch pedal is pushed in a bit and then it extends closing the switch?  That should be easy to install if I give up on the other route.

Forget my ramblings  :screwy: I just fixed the old one.  If you've had one apart you will see a brass metal plate that rotates and a stationary brass contact that is attached to the cover and wire.  The contact was worn so I soldered it up and ground it down.  I then bent the brass plate up so it made good contact with the brass contact.  Waterpump pliers are good for bending the tabs back into place.  Everything seems to work fine now.  I hope it is reliable.  I left the old bypass wire in place just in case.  ;D

I left the old bypass wire in place just in case.  ;D

Thats the best way to solve it ... just fix the switch
