Engine block differences
« on: January 01, 2009 - 09:58:45 PM »
OK,
I know this may sound like a stupid question, but what is the difference between a long block and short block. I am talking about a 440 here. I know I have a long block, but I've seen 440 short blocks listed for sale before and wondered what the difference was??? :dunno: :clueless: :dunno:

:iagree: Long block is a complete engine. Shortblock is just the block and rotating assembly.

Oh now that there is funny, I don't care who you are!! And I guess a 'light' block would be a block less the crank & pistons!! :smilielol: :roflsmiley: :smilielol: :roflsmiley: :smilielol:

I lightened a block one time. I ran it too long with the head gaskets blown and windowed the block. Nothing like trying to make it home while hearing 3 distinct booms coming about a minute apart. When you start out with 8 rods but make it home with only 5 you know you have a light block lol.
