Shop Manual Errors
« on: January 25, 2009 - 08:03:29 AM »
I thought I would start a thread on problems found with Chrysler shop manuals.

The 1st one that came to mind is, if you are building an A833 4-speed the torque listed for the 'drive pinion bearing retainer bolts' is specified at 30ft/lbs.  This is a 5/16-18 bolt, even a grade 8's torque should only be 270in/lbs (22.5ft/lbs).  A friend of mine pulled the threads out of his case following the spec.

I checked my 1989 manual and they still hadn't corrected it by then.

I torque mine to the grade 5 spec, 200in/lbs.

The goal never changes - Stop the 60' timer with your back tires

Some errors in the factory service manuals are covered / corrected in the technical service bulletins, you can see the ones I have so far at the link below, the TSBs are near the bottom of the grid. They also cover items  / issues not covered in the FSM;
