Lacquer Paint Question
« on: January 18, 2009 - 01:50:37 PM »
I'm currently repainting my dash frame with some Dupli-Color spray bomb lacquer. Can I clear over it with some matte Krylon or would the results spell disaster? I'm pretty sure the Krylon is enamel.

I like this color so much, I'm thinking of doing under the hood as well. It's very close to B5 blue.

Thanks

Steve

Typically, you can put enamel over lacquer, but you can't put lacquer over enamel. However, spraying a small test panel is the best way to avoid any mis-haps.

HP2 is dead on, though most spray bombs are enamel.

I'd use something a little bit better than cheap rattle can Krylon clear from wal-mart,atleast use Dupli-Color,or stop by auto paint supply store and buy a better grade aerosol clear that is made for proffessional touch ups and small parts refinishing, just about any paint line has their version of aerosol clearcoat ,also keep in mind that applying clear over cheap metallic rattle can paint will usually alter the color, so do a test panel
