Has anyone shipped parts cross country (in the USA) ???
« on: January 04, 2009 - 05:18:50 PM »
...if so, who did you use, and did it work out well for both parties???

I have a flat hood, rear exhaust valence and misc. other parts that I may need to ship from MN to KS.  Any suggestions on how best to do this? :1zhelp:

Thanks...

Maybe greyhound?

I had some seats sent and it took a week from MI to MA and they were 2 Buckets and the rears 3pcs total and it was 180 IIRC.

greyhound is a good start. ups will ship large parcels if packed well. i have shipped many fenders and doors via ups.. of course pricing is based on size there. unfortunately major trucking companies will only discourage you more. :screwy:

I shipped a heater box to Slotts, CA to PA, via USPS.  It only cost about $40.00.

Greyhound is the best way to go for big body parts.

Hoods are really tricky. And I think to big for the grey hound routine. Proper crating is critical if you want it to get there undamaged. And it's an expensive shipping class (250 I think) on frieght lines. Here's a few tips for frieght line
1 the higher the freight class the more$$
2 the bigger/heavier the freight more $$$
3 residential delivery through a freight company $$$
Hoods are generally to big for other shippers.. there are exceptions but I'll end up making this post 2 miles long.

Anything else FED EX ground works well and its easy to set up an account. USPS is cheap BUT not really trackable (I dont care what they advertise!) and not very timely. Grey hound works if youre near them (cost wise).

I have shipped using all methods I've mentioned. Body parts can be very tricky (along with heavy items) (tranny's for example) for the inexperienced shipper.

For large or heavy parts I always use Forward Air. The only problem you'll need to be near a major airport and so will they. Last time I shipped 400 pounds on a pallet from Chicago to Columbus, OH and it was $82. We also shipped a Dana(on a pallet) from Chicago to LA for about 120. It can be a hassle to use because they don't take cash so you'll need an exact money order. Hopefully there's a Currency Exchange in the area.

Hey Guys....I can't believe none of you mentioned www.uship.com as it's like ebay, except you post what you need shipped, and to where, and shippers bid on your shipment...so the LOWEST bid wins! It's an awesome resource as I've used it before...for every happy transaction, both seller and shipper get a rating, like ebay's feedback system....So the more you use it,the higher your rating....Sweet,eh?   Good Luck Dude!  and Happy 2009 Everybody!
