inner fender differences
« on: January 18, 2009 - 01:30:32 AM »
I heard somewhere that the 70 Challenger inner fenders were different then the 71-74. Is that true, and if so what are the differences and can the 71-74 be converted to look like the 70's?

The only difference I think is some of the mounting holes. A/C cars have a different inner fender.  :clueless:

the difference in the inner fenders is that in 1970 the battery hold down
is from the battery tray and the side of the inner fender,
the 71-74 have it from the top of the inner fender.

Great thanks. Are there any differences in the front frame rails, specifically the passenger side?

frame rails are the same , you will notice the notch above the shock tower towards the rear on the right inner fender on the 71-74 also

Right inner fender will also have weld-nuts for the horns on 70 & 71's, just holes or dimples on 72-74. Horns are off the latch tray support on the later cars.

I think the later ones also have more holes in general for mounting washer bottle, charcoal cannister, etc.

A/C & Non A/C are the same physically, there are just more holes used for A/C...water valve, air dryer, etc. Firewalls are different.

Yup, I bought inners from Sherman's and ended up cutting out the battery hold down "bump" and patching the notch on the passenger side.  Of course now others sell the correct ones.

The 71 drivers side inner fenders bump was on A/C cars for line hold down not battery.
