Where are you getting your 12V for the choke?  Sounds like if it isn't staying open it doesn't have 12v.

  I would disconnect the choke & wire it open, car should start, see if this makes a difference, you won't be able to drive it though but at least you should know if it is the choke. You can adjust the choke so it doesn't close off completely, don't pump the acelerator when cranking.

Do you have an electric choke? It SHOULD stay open once warmed. Be careful in temps below 40* F. It is easy to flood the car while trying to start it. Give the pedal one pump and turn the key...unless the car has sat for a few weeks, then it may take another pump or two.

Thanks guys I will check proper choke setting tomorrow. Maybe the ground is bad, it's only on the carb itself. The positive
comes from the wipermotor.What about the vacuumadvance, do you have it connected or plugged?

You need to find a good clean 12V power source for the Choke.  The ground may need to be relocated depending on where those carb studs go.  Do they go into the spacer and another set into the manifold or do they go all the way through?

Street motor would only benefit from the vacuum advance.  i run it on mine.

  looking at the picture the earth/ground is good but I would be looking for an ignition (12v) switched positive source, the wiper might not be that good.

the choke should open in under a minute if you have a 12v source feed to it , the blue wire at the ballast will be 12v , as soon as the engine fires vacuum should pull the choke open apprx 1/3 this could be where the problem is in that the choke is not pulling open enough with vacuum

I stopped fiddling with the wiring and ran mine straight into the accessory tab on the fuse block. I used a piggy back connector.  I know.

Problem is/was bad connection of chokewires. the positive goes in to the bulkhead for the wiper but only "sticked in.
Chryco, Which blue wire on the ballast were you refering to that I could use?

the one towards the passenger side of the car , it is dark blue & feeds the ignition ECU also
