Ignition Question
« on: February 09, 2009 - 03:09:09 PM »
Keep in mind this is my first Mopar so the ignition system is a little foreign to me. I'm used to Ferds and Chebbie's...

Last month, turn key and car cranks and starts right up
This month - turn key and nothing, not even a click
But - I can turn the key to the on position and jump the ignition model and engine turns and starts right up and stay running.

Bad Ballist? Bad switch? Bad ignition module? Bad fusable link?

Where to do I start?

It's a 73 318 Challenger...car isn't street legal, but it's easier to start it up and move it around when needed then to bug the neighbor to help push!

Thanks in advance!

NEUTRAL  switch in the tranny could be out of whack- try moving shifter around while you try- it will start in park or neutral!

sounds like your starter, disconnect battery, make certain starter connection are ok , i would take starter off car and ground starter on battery just make sure it working properly, your bendex could be sticking or something internal in starter.good starting point using process of elemenation. good luck..

Starter works fine - car turns over and starts right up when you jump the ignition module. Just not when you turn the key. Wiggled the shifter and no joy

I think the neutral cut off is bad. Anyone know a good way to test that? Looks like I might be crawling under the car

you are jumping the start relay not the ign module , , replace the start relay it is bad
