Rallye Wheel backspacing?
« on: February 03, 2009 - 07:33:30 PM »
I’m getting ready to purchase some new wheels for one of my 70 Challengers and I was wondering if someone could tell me what the correct backspacing is for an OEM style 15 x 7 rallye wheel?

YearOne lists their FP90C rallye wheel as having a 4 ½“ backspacing….

while Wheel Vintiques lists their 56-5712044 rallye wheel as having a 4 ¼” backspacing.  :clueless:

Which would be the correct OEM style wheel for a 70 Challenger?  Does YearOne really sell a different wheel or did they just make a mistake in their listing?

Also, were the original trim rings for the 70 rallye wheels the brushed type or the polished type?  Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

The 15X7's should be 4.5" backspacing. 4.25" will still work, but I believe THAT was a typo. Even with 4.25" backspacing, you can't get a big enough wheel on a 7" rim to cause you trouble.   :grinno: The trim rings on a 70 were polished.

Thanks for your help Mike.

I think I'll give Wheel Vintiques a call to find out why they list theirs as 4 1/4".  If the wheels are actually the same size as YearOne sells, then I would rather go with the Wheel Vintiques because I can get them from Jegs quite a bit cheaper and I can pick them up locally and avoid shipping costs.

Did you get you trim rings and center caps from Jegs also?  I don't remember seeing those listed but I'm having trouble accessing their website right now, so I'll have to check again later.

I got my trim rings from Laysons. I can't remember where I got the center caps, but they are available after-market now, so they aren't too hard to find.
