Widest tire on a 15x7 rim?
« on: February 08, 2009 - 09:49:36 AM »
Hi guys, thanks in advance for any help!

I've looked through a bunch of the tire threads and so far it looks like the widest I have seen someone mount on a 15x7 rim is a 255/60R-15 tire.

Is this the widest that can go on a 15x7 rim?  Will a 275/60 or 265/60 series work?

Thanks!!!

I just put a set of 275/60-15's on my car two days ago.  Im using steel 15x7 truck rims which have 1/4 less back spacing that a stock 15x7 rallye, and they fit fine with no rubbing.  i will post pics later today for you.  My dads R/T has the same size tires on rallyes and the fit fine also.

Personally I would go more than a 255 on a 7 inch rim because it will buldge too much out the sides.

Thanks for the replies guys!  :2thumbs:

Would love to see pics, sloop!  :grinyes:

72hemi, bulging too much on the sides- will that cause any issues that you are aware of?  would the rim be too narro and make the center of the contact patch wear quicker than the edges due to the center bulging (not the sidewalls)???  :clueless:

Phil,

On a 15X7 rim, the largest recommended tire is 255/60/15". That's what I have in the rear.

Thanks for the info guys!  Much appreciated!

Safety first I guess, thanks Mike, the word I was looking for was "recommended", a word that sorta takes the fun out of stuff.  :faint:

Car looks great, sloop.  I was going to do like you did, just the chrome lug nuts.

We'll see if I can get the rims.  Can't check them out until Tuesday and they may have been looked at already today.  We'll see....

Thanks again guys!
