What Fan for my 340?
« on: February 07, 2009 - 01:04:16 AM »
I am pulling the 318 and installing a 340 motor and just wanted to know what fan (original or repro) I should get, assuming I am going to install a 26" radiator (ps, pd, 727, no a/c).   Also, would someone kindly explain the difference between a standard and clutch type fan and do I have an option for using either one for my setup?

Thanks, Charlie

18" , you can use a fixed fan or a clutch type , fixed runs at engine RPM , clutch unlocks when cold air is passing through the rad & locks up when hot air is passing througn , this increases cooling when the rad is hot & decreases drag when not needed such as on the highway . .I always use clutch fans

:iagree:

My '73 Cuda came with figure 17 (see pic below) from the factory with a 22" radiator.

Hey Charlie
We recently replaced the fan on our '70 Cuda 340 as it had a lot of play in it.
It was originally supplied with a "torque clutch type" (called a "non thermal") fan. It was at some point changed to a "Thermal Clutch type" (called a "Thermal").
After a lot of searching for a new one here (as we just cant buy off the shelf parts for E-body's in New Zealand) we finally found and fitted a "Thermal Heavy Duty" type. It was made by Flex-A-Lite in USA.
Hope this helps.
Brent

Flex-A-Lite also makes a 18 " 6 blade fan to work with the clutch
