Are there any good carburetor cleaners on the market?
« on: February 13, 2009 - 10:52:02 PM »
I haven't rebuilt a carb in many years, but am about to. I remember the old carb cleaners would remove anything off of anything, but assume those are long gone. Does anyone have any specific recommendations?

The old stuff is still around. You have a bigger problem finding it locally since no one is rebuilding carbs anymore, but any auto store should be able to order you some if they don't have it.

We've been using (non-clorinated)(cause it wont hurt the waste oil furnace) brake cleaner on just about everything. Gets it clean but no residue like carb cleaner leaves. Most shops around here do the same!

Both Napa and Advance Auto Parts stores around here still sell the paint can like dips that'll disolve anything not metal.  That stuff is brutal.
