Front valiance removal
« on: February 15, 2009 - 04:43:53 PM »
Okay, I'm not sure I calling it by it's correct name, but the small piece that runs between the two front fenders and directly in front of the hood and over the top of grill.  Does it come loose from the fenders?  I saw two bolts on each side where it bolts to the fenders and one lower on a bracket type piece that also bolted to the fender.  Under all six bolts and it's still connected.  As best as I can tell some of the brackets that hold the grill in place and are connected to this piece are also tack welded to the fender.  Is this correct or am I missing something?

I think you're talking about the header panel.  It might be different for a 70 Cuda, but on my 72 there were two bolts on each side that screwed in to the fenders.  Then there were 2 bolts that screwed down in to the radiator core support yoke (on each side of the hood latch), then finally 2 more bolts down on the core support yoke from the bracket off the header panel.

In this picture you can see the 2 top bolts and one of the two lower bolts.  Again this is on my 72, a 70 or 71 might be different.

Travis thanks for the photos.  I've undone all those bolts you described, but the Header is still attached to the fenders??  When I removed the fenders, both fenders and the header came off as a single unit.  I can't seem to find what's still holding them together.  I'm going to flip them upside down today and take a better look to see if I can find my problem.  Thanks for your interest in my problem and the photos.

You mention 6 bolts (3 per side).  On my '70 there are actually 4 per side that attach to the fenders.  You may be missing one of the lower ones.  See pic attached.  The lower 2 holes are for bolts as well.  Sounds like you removed one but maybe not the other.
